As part of my 4A's MAIP application during my internship at DDB Health, I reimagined the cover of Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, the first novel in The Seeds of America Trilogy. The objective was to modernize the visual identity of this powerful historical narrative while preserving the emotional weight of Isabel and Ruth's journey through slavery and the pursuit of freedom. Drawing inspiration from the chain sculptures of Korean artist Seo Young-Deok, I developed a concept that used chains as both a literal and symbolic representation of oppression, resilience, and human complexity. Through contemporary typography, imagery, and composition, the redesigned cover aimed to introduce the novel to a new generation of readers while honoring the story's enduring themes.
